I’m so excited for our Free Yarn Swap on Saturday, January 19th at the Mount Pleasant Public Library. I remember going to my first yarn swap as a newbie knitter. Not only was it great to meet other knitters in the community, I also came away with bags of treasures. I stocked up on circs and DPNs at the free table (which I still use today) and got some great yarn – some free and some that I traded for.
Amanda was the big winner at that first swap though – if I remember correctly, she traded some Angora yarn for a giant ball of Fleece Artist Nyoni (over 600 yards!) and made this stunning Bermuda Scarf:

She also came away with a set of nickel plated circular needles. And she found this yarn at our last swap:

One of my all time favourite yarn swap scores was two skeins of beautiful tweedy handspun from Two Sisters Stringworks. I think I traded a ball of Manos del Uruguay for them. They were perfect for an Urchin, an Ysolda pattern I had been wanting to make for some time.

Swaps are super fun for any level of knitter, whether you are looking to increase or decrease your stash. Come by and check it out (come early for the good stuff!). Hope to see you there and don’t forget to bring your knitting!
Knit Social January Yarn Swap
Saturday, January 19th, from 10am to 1pm
Mount Pleasant Library, Multi-Purpose room. 604-665-3962
FREE!

I’ve never been to a yarn swap (or any kind of swap, actually! Ewww, that didn’t sound quite right…..).
So, how does a yarn swap work? Do I have to bring something to swap? Or can I come empty handed, with a pocket-o-cash, and leave with treasures?
Do people sell their unwanted yarn & stuff for cash?
Help please! I’m a yarn swap virgin!
Good questions! Most people bring yarn to swap but you don’t have to. You are welcome to come to browse and buy something if you like. You can also take anything you want from the free table!
See you on Saturday,
Fiona
