Decorative Mending: More than Mending and Making Do!
Tickets at $110.00
Mending and Making do is a principle you are all familiar with, usually thought of in association with the frugality of the War years in this country and in Europe. But mending and darning have traditions that are far more ancient and of far more philosophical interest to craftspeople like yourselves. For a different perspective, you will look at old textiles and artifacts with new eyes, and bring mending up to present day with new interpretations of old techniques. Sivia guarantees a beautiful, poetic presentation that will make your fingers twitch to get mending!
Small amounts of smooth, firm worsted weight wool yarn (superwash is ok) in a variety of colors
Size 8 (5 mm) double pointed needles
Feel free to bring any damaged or holey knitwear you may have with various yarn(s) that match the gauge and appropriate size double pointed needles
Work up a 4×4″ stockinette stitch swatch in worsted weight wool yarn with size 8 (5 mm) needles (or use a needle size that results in a rather firm fabric). We will snip holes in the swatch to create holes to be mended. Also, if you have any knitted items with real holes in them, you are encouraged to bring them to class and we will assess the damage and strategize the best mend.
